Chelsea Tuach, Barbados’ Surf Ambassador

The first Barbadian surfer to join the Championship Tour, and ranked fourth on the Qualifying Series in 2015, Chelsea Tuach has established herself as a leading figure in surfing in Barbados and, more broadly, across the Caribbean. Born in Bridgetown, she grew up in a family steeped in surf culture. Introduced early to Barbados’ waves and quickly drawn into competition, she represented her home island on the international stage from the age of ten. An early trajectory shaped by a particular context: far from the major hubs of global surfing, she has had to contend with more limited access to top-level competitions and professional structures. Chelsea Tuach nevertheless continued to progress on North American and international circuits. In 2013, she won a junior World Surf League event in North America, before going on to compete regularly on the Qualifying Series. In 2015, she reached fourth place in the rankings, marking one of the best results achieved by a surfer from the Caribbean. This momentum led her, in 2016, to qualify for the Cham- pionship Tour—the elite level of world surfing—a first for a Barbadian surfer. Since then, Chelsea Tuach has continued her career on the international circuit, with regular appearances in major competitions. Beyond her results, her journey reflects the gradual opening of professional surfing to new regions. While remaining closely connected to Barbados, she contributes to raising the Caribbean’s profile on the global stage and is part of the ongoing evolution of women’s surfing.
